Human serum is the clear, protein-rich fluid that remains after blood has clotted and the clot has been removed. It contains growth factors, hormones, transport proteins, immunoglobulins, and trace elements — the complete physiological environment that cells need to survive and proliferate. For human cell culture, human serum is increasingly preferred over fetal bovine serum (FBS) because it eliminates the risk of xenogenic immune reactions and provides a species-matched biochemical environment.
