Human Serum vs FBS — When to Switch
EMA guidance (EMA/410/01) specifically recommends avoiding bovine-derived materials in cell therapy manufacturing. For human cell systems, human serum is the physiologically correct choice — it eliminates xenogenic immune reactions and provides human-specific growth factors that FBS cannot replicate.
