Rocker Bag — Single-Use Bioreactor Bag for Rocking Platforms | SeamlessBio
Rocker Bag — Single-Use Bioreactor Bag for Rocking & Wave Platforms
Rocker bags — also called wave bioreactor bags or rocking platform bags — are three-dimensional single-use bioreactor vessels designed for suspension cell culture on rocking and wave motion platforms. The rocking motion induces a wave in the liquid, providing efficient oxygen transfer and gentle mixing without mechanical agitators. This combination of gentle mixing and high oxygen transfer makes rocker bags the preferred format for mammalian cell culture, including CHO, HEK293, and Vero cells.
SeamlessBio supplies rocker bags compatible with all major rocking platform systems. Bags are manufactured from USP Class VI certified multilayer film, gamma sterilized, and supplied with complete GMP documentation.
Rocker bag vs 2D bag vs 3D tote bag: Rocker bags are optimised for cell culture on rocking platforms — the geometry and film thickness are engineered for gas exchange. 2D bags are designed for mixing and storage on orbital shakers. 3D tote bags are for large-volume storage and cube container systems. Choose the rocker bag when cell culture and bioreactor performance are the priority.
How Rocker Bags Work
The rocking platform tilts back and forth at 5–20 rocks per minute. This creates a wave motion in the bag that simultaneously achieves:
| Function | Mechanism | Benefit |
| Oxygen transfer | Wave motion continuously renews the liquid surface — maximises gas-liquid interface | High kLa without mechanical agitation or sparging |
| Mixing | Wave-induced bulk flow distributes nutrients, cells and gases | Homogeneous culture without impeller shear stress |
| CO₂ removal | Continuous surface renewal strips dissolved CO₂ | pH control without excessive base addition |
| Temperature control | Bags placed on heated rocking platforms with integrated sensors | Precise temperature maintenance throughout culture |
Key Applications
